Bernard “Bernie” Dale Campbell passed quietly into Heaven early Saturday, April 13, 2024, after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer. Bernie was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Hartley to Charles and Goldie (Dockweiler) Campbell. He joined his big brother, Duane, at home west of Royal.
He graduated from Royal High School in 1961, and even drove the school bus his senior year.
Bernie married his beautiful wife, Mary Lou Lorch, on March 8, 1970 at the First Baptist Church in Spencer. After their honeymoon to Nashville, they made their home in the house Bernie grew up in. They welcomed two sons to their union, Brian in 1974 and Mark in 1976.
Bernie’s passion was the farm, making it his life’s work. However, throughout the years Bernie had a lot of hobbies. He played softball for many years, playing in the outfield. He enjoyed playing golf, enjoying the company of his many friends. Bernie and Mary traveled to many gospel music sings through the years. The last 21 years held his second-biggest passion, his six grandchildren. From attending concerts, ballgames, building animals with Play-Doh, making pancakes and rides on the golf cart, to family trips to Florida, each grandchild held a special place in his heart.
Bernie accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age. It was important throughout his life to be strong in his faith and to be a witness of Jesus in everything he did.
