The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Tina Marie Jacobson, 46, of Primghar, was northbound on Highway 59 at approximately 9:50 p.m. on April 17, when three small horses ran onto the roadway. Her 2010 Acura hit the horses, killing two instantly. The third horse was injured and ran off.
That horse then ran back onto the highway and was hit by a semi a short time later. A pickup following the semi also hit the third horse which was in the roadway.

• Candle is suspected cause of Sanborn house fire
An unattended candle is suspected to be the cause of a fire in a Sanborn residence on April 20.
The Sanborn Fire Department reports seeing flames coming out of a second floor window as they approached the residence on West 3rd Street. Firemen put out the fire with extinguishers, ventilated the house, performed overhaul and boarded up the window.
No injuries were reported. The upstairs bedroom where the fire occurred was heavily damaged, and the hallway also sustained heat and smoke damage. Closed doors helped limit damage to other rooms on the second floor.
