Make a lei at Hartley library Monday

The Hartley Public Library will host an adult craft event, “Create a Lei,” on Monday, May 13 from 4-5:30 p.m. Participants will create Hawaiian leis out of paper, yarn and beads.

All are welcome to attend.

Junior Golf Academy at Meadowbrook

Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club will host its annual Junior Golf Academy next month. The camp is open to local children in third grade through high school.

Mother’s Day brunch at Crazy Bob’s

Crazy Bob’s in Hartley is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Additions to Avenue of Flags are welcome

Families of deceased veterans who would like their veteran’s flag and name to be included in the Avenue of Flags should text Roy Wohlert at (712) 301-8095, no later than May 18.

Food distribution at Trinity UCC

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, May 15, starting at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food.

H-M-S Class of 2024 to graduate May 19

The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School Class of 2024 will hold its commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m., in the H-M-S Event Center. The public is invited to attend.

Next week’s Sentinel-News will include the annual graduation tab featuring portraits and profiles of the senior class.

Record number to graduate at NCC

Spring 2024 Commencement Exercises at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon are scheduled for Friday, May 10. The college will celebrate a record number of 294 spring graduates.

The day will begin with the Health Programs Commencement at 9:30 a.m. at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on campus. The ceremony will also feature pinning ceremonies for Health Program graduates. In addition, Larry Hoekstra will be honored with the Trustee Emeritus Distinction for his over 20 years of service on the NCC Board of Trustees. Hoekstra will also deliver the commencement address.

The afternoon ceremony for all other programs will commence at 1:30 p.m. at the same location. Hoekstra will once again take the podium as the keynote speaker. The event will also include the presentation of the Outstanding Student Leadership Award.

For those unable to attend in person, both ceremonies will be livestreamed on NCC’s YouTube site. Family, friends and the community are invited to attend and celebrate this milestone achievement for NCC’s graduates.

Ernst staff to host traveling office hours May 14

Representatives from the office of U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) will be available in two area counties to assist area residents with problems or questions about issues involving Social Security, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration issues and other federal programs.

Constituents seeking assistance with federal agencies who are unable to attend the traveling office hours can contact one of the senator’s offices directly or submit a casework request online at http://www.Ernst.senate.gov.

Members of Sen. Ernst’s staff will be at the following locations. Please note the senator will not be at the traveling office hours.

• Clay County: Tuesday, May 14, 10-11 a.m., Spencer City Hall – Council Chambers, 101 West 5th Street, Spencer.

• O’Brien County: Tuesday, May 14, 3-4 p.m., Primghar City Hall – Council Room, 160 South Hayes Avenue, Primghar.
