K-6 students enjoy competition at Royal track
The weather couldn't have been better on Monday for the kickoff of Clay Central/Everly's reinstated K-6 Maverick Relays.
The event was hosted at the former CC/E football field and track in Royal. The day was divided in two, with K-2 grade events hosted in the morning and 3-6 grade events in the afternoon.
K-2 participated in four field events first, including the football toss, Frisbee throw, softball toss and kickball kick. Students then headed to the starting line for the 50-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter dash. The final event of the K-2 morning was the 100-meter hurdles.
Following the track and field events, K-2 students headed to the Royal City Park for an early recess on the playground. The rest of the students then arrived for a delicious hotdog meal served at the shelter house by CC/E's cooks.
Afterwards, 3-6 grade students headed to the track to have their hand at the same events, plus a few more. Events added were the 200-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 4x100 meter relay and 4x200 meter relay.
Mavericks displayed tenacity, talent and bravery as many tried events they had never attempted before. All students did a fantastic job showing their leadership skills, enjoying the beautiful day and igniting some Maverick pride.
Ribbons for event placing will be distributed during an awards ceremony on a later date.
