Weather hinders full schedule at Sioux Central
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored 75 points and finished fourth overall in the boys’ competition at the Sioux Central track and field meet on May 6.
Damion Hansen won the shot put in his first varsity competition. His best effort was measured at 45 feet. Adam Schierholz topped the standings in the discus throw at 144’1” and Jacob Cates finished second at 128’8”.
George Vargas was the runner-up in the 3200 meter run (12:00.13).
H-M-S’s best relay finish was fourth in the 4x800. Nathaniel Ball, Carter Dolphin, Damian Dodge and Blaine Finster ran a time of 10:29.15.
Other individual results were: 100 – Caleb Grotluschen, sixth, :13.32; Graham Lux, 10th, :13.58. 200 – C. Grotluschen, sixth, :27.16; Lux, seventh, :27.32. 400 – Dolphin, fourth, :57.73; Ryan Grotluschen, fifth, :58.28. 800 – R. Grotluschen, fifth, 2:22.57; Dodge, 10th, 2:34.23. 3200 – Easton Teal, fifth, 12:59.53. 400 hurdles – Ball, fifth, 1:06.11. Long jump – Dodge, ninth, 15’2”. Shot put – Bryce Ortega, seventh, 38’6”.
The distance medley team of C. Grotluschen, Lux, Dodge and Finster placed sixth (4:32.75).
Sioux Central topped the team standings with 116 points, followed by Pocahontas Area 98, Alta-Aurelia 89, H-M-S 75, Newell-Fonda 61, Harris-Lake Park 56, GTRA 48 and West Bend-Mallard 44. Not all events were held due to weather.
