Having finished last and scoring just one point at the Class 2A state qualifying meet in 2023, a top priority for the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn girls' track and field team this spring was to improve on both results.
Competing at the Class 1A state qualifying meet at Armstrong on May 6, the Hawks did just that. They scored 22 points and finished 10th among the 13 competing teams.

The improved results at the state qualifying meet mirrored the progress made by the Hawks throughout the season.
"I was happy to see our team contribute more as an entire track and field team. We had field events and track events score points for us at meets," Hawk coach Kirsten Taylor said. "We are taking steps in the right direction. I am proud of this group and everything we have accomplished."
Ending their high school careers are seniors Jocelyn Abonce, Lexi Croatt and Alexis Grover.
