National Poppy Day is Friday

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms.

Local residents are encouraged to wear or purchase a poppy to honor those who have worn our nation’s uniform on National Poppy Day, Friday, May 24. All donations received will be used by the American Legion Auxiliary for programs that support veterans, the military community and their families.

On Friday, May 24, Hartley American Legion Auxiliary Unit 288 will have poppies available in many businesses throughout the community. Auxiliary members ask that you join them in remembering those who served and those currently serving to protect our freedom.
