Eighth graders encouraged to prepare for journey to high school
Fifty-three eighth grade students at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School are looking toward the future as they are ready to move on to high school.
During the awards program on May 23, students signed a class banner indicating they intend to attend school regularly, volunteer in their community, participate in extracurricular activities, and earn the grades and credits necessary to graduate in four years.
"Be prepared to meet the challenges, keep striving for excellence, stay curious, be kind, and always keep believing in yourselves," Principal Heidi Douma told the Class of 2028.
Staff presented awards to students in grades 5-8 for special achievement in academics, extracurricular activities and athletics.
The Mi'Ono Club, of Sanborn, annually recognizes eighth grade students for special achievement. Ellie Pals received the perfect attendance award and Caden Douma was presented with the academic achievement award.
