A private family service in memory of Ramona M. Dass was held at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, with LeRoy Eggink officiating. Burial took place at the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery. Jurrens Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Ramona Mary Schuck Dass was born Jan. 3, 1929, near Little Rock, to Art and Jessie (Stahl) Schuck. She graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1948.
She married Carroll Dass on March 13, 1949, in Worthington, Minn. They were married 72 years when Carroll passed away. They both loved to do polka dancing at the Hartley Danceland.
They were blessed with four children: Diane (Pete) Janssen, of Sibley; Lynette (Steve) Farnsworth, of Emmetsburg; Kenny (Machelle) Dass, of South Sioux City, Neb.; and Kevin (Cheryl) Dass, of Kansas City, Mo.
Ramona loved to bake and cook, and her favorites to make were brownies, potato salad and rice pudding. She was also an avid housekeeper and always had things in perfect shape when her kids came home from school.
Ramona worked at Ben Franklin store in Hartley. Carroll and Ramona were also part owners of the True Value Hardware store in Hartley for many years. After retiring they moved to Sibley where she worked part-time at Sibley-Ocheyedan Elementary School as a food server.
Ramona loved being a grandma to her nine grandchildren: Laurie, Stephanie, Randy, Nathan, Shane, Kacie, Austin, Dillon and Kyle. She also had 11 great-grandchildren. They called her Grandma Mona! She also loved gardening and tending to her flowers.
Ramona was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.
She entered Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley in January of 2017, due to declining health. Her favorite saying to the staff was "Yippy Skippy!"
She passed away at the age of 95 on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Country View Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Donna Kaiser, Janice Lamfers and Lana Jacobsma; and her husband, Carroll, in January 2022.
She is survived by her four children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be missed dearly.
