• Charged with drug, alcohol violations

Kyler Bailey, 18, of Laurens, was stopped by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 7:30 p.m. on June 16, for allegedly speeding in the 4900 mile of Highway 71.

In addition to the traffic violation, Bailey was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of tobacco under the legal age.

• Arrested on drug charges in Primghar

Melea Speelmon, 31, of Ruthven, was arrested on June 16 in Primghar. According to the complaint, Speelmon appeared to be nervous during a traffic stop. When asked by an O’Brien County deputy if she had any illegal substances, she stated she did and produced a baggie with a white substance in it. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

She was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine-third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. She was booked into jail and faces a preliminary hearing on July 8.

• Woman rescued from vehicle in water

Norma Hanson, of Spencer, was driving in the 2300 mile of 300th Street on June 21 when she lost control of her 2022 GMC Terrain as it began to hydroplane. The vehicle came to rest in a water-filled ditch and she was unable to make an exit.

A Clay County Sheriff’s deputy and two citizens went into the water, broke out a window and helped Hanson reach safety. She was not injured.
