Hawks remain winless in WEC baseball play

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn remained winless in War Eagle Conference baseball play after losing to MMCRU, 11-1, on June 21 at Marcus. It was the only game of the week for H-M-S, as two other contests were washed out.

The Royals broke out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a two-run home run and a two-run double. They added to their lead with an infield RBI single and scored three more times as a result of Hawk errors.

In the third inning, Brody Meendering and Jack Mastbergen walked. Lawton Schiphoff hit a single to shallow left field that scored Meendering.

MMCRU scored its final runs on a double, a groundout and a wild pitch during the fourth inning.

The Hawks had five hits, including a double by Mastbergen and singles by Grant Kunzman, Ricky Smith, Meendering and Schiphoff.

Schiphoff was the losing pitcher. He allowed four hits and four runs, walked two and struck out one. Caden Douma gave up seven runs and four hits, walked four and struck out one.

H-M-S fell to 2-14 overall and 0-7 in conference play. They will host Gehlen Catholic on June 28 and conclude the regular season on July 1 at George-Little Rock.
