A funeral service for Roger S. Meyer was held Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Everly United Church in Everly. Burial was at First Reformed Cemetery in rural Everly. Warner Funeral Home in Everly assisted with the arrangements.
Roger Siebe Meyer was born Sept. 11, 1950 in Spencer, to parents Siebe and Grace (Kuper) Meyer. He grew up on a farm near Everly. He attended Okoboji School for two years and then attended and graduated from Everly High School in 1969.
Roger married Susan Ingwersen in Lake Park on May 23, 1981. Three children were born to this union: Shane Meyer, Rhonda Quinn and Randy Meyer. They raised their family in Everly.
Roger was baptized at Excelsior United Methodist Church at Milford. He later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Everly. He was very involved in various committees while attending church.
Upon graduation, Roger worked as a farmhand for countless area farmers. He was then employed at Harms Implement as a truck driver until their closure in the 1990s. Following that he was employed at Spencer International as a truck driver until his retirement.
Roger enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts and cattle shows. He also enjoyed attending IH shows and was an avid collector of IH toys. For many years he spent his Saturday mornings drinking coffee and socializing at Barb’s Corner and the elevator. One could often find him clearing snow and mowing lawns for his neighbors while often not accepting payment other than an occasional bottle of BV.
Roger passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the age of 73. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Susan Meyer; their children: Shane (Lenah) Meyer, of Hartley; Rhonda (Dustin) Quinn, of Spencer; and Randy (Rachel) Meyer, of Everly; grandchildren: Regan Meyer, Grant Meyer, Kuper Quinn, Karsten Quinn, Ada Meyer and Riner Meyer; his sisters: Carol Waldron, of Spencer; and Shirley Nattress, of Milford; as well as many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents: Siebe and Grace Meyer, brothers-in-law: Mitchell Turk, Norman Nattress and Murrell Waldron; and great-nephew, Bradley Nattress.
Roger’s smile behind the beard and his suspenders will be remembered always.
