William J. 'Bill' Woodall, Jr., 92, Paullina

William J. “Bill” Woodall, Jr., 92, of Paullina, formerly of Cherokee, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Aurelia First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Agnew officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. Military rites will be performed by L.A. Westcott Post #2253 and the Cherokee American Legion. Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting with the arrangements.

Bill was born Dec. 26, 1931 to William and Hazel (Ogren) Woodall in Pilot Township, rural Washta. He graduated from Washta High School in 1951. He enlisted into the United States Navy, serving from 1953-1958 on the USS Eversole DD-789. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Griffith on June 24, 1957.

He worked for the City of Cherokee after high school graduation and until he entered the Navy. He then worked for Brower Construction driving truck hauling heavy equipment, and retired in September 2000 to care for his wife.

Bill was affiliated with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

In his spare time he enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, camping with family members and collecting coins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, JoAnn, in 2001; son, Steve Woodall, in 1976; two brothers and two sisters: Jim (Ruth) Woodall, John Woodall, Bonita Woodall and Beverly Ritz; and nephew, John Ritz.

He will lovingly be remembered by his daughters: Gayle and Steve Gustafson, of Cherokee; and Gwyn and Hal Voss, of Hartley; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Dan (Libby) Gustafson, of Cherokee, and their children, Cole, Lilah and Annabelle; Matt (Casey) Gustafson, of Oakland, Neb., and their children, Madison, Lincoln and Hudson; Bradley (Cameo) Gustafson, of Aurelia, and their children, Hayden, Braidyn, Harley and Nova; Kory Voss, of Hartley, and her daughter, Karlie; and Hank Voss, of Primghar; brother, Paul D. Woodall, of Sutherland; sister-in-law, Jan Woodall, of Cherokee; nieces: Dana Griffith, Kim Seliger, Julie Woodall-Smith, Kay Fjoslien and Sandy Bernstein; nephews: Jerry Woodall, Brian Griffith, Jimmy Woodall and Tom Woodall; also several great-nieces and nephews.
