• Sanborn man caught in auger
The O'Brien County Communications Center received a 911 call at 11:08 a.m. on July 8 for an unknown emergency at 3317 Pierce Avenue. The report stated that emergency services from the Sanborn Fire Department and Sheldon Ambulance, along with deputies from the O'Brien County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the rural Sanborn address.
Firemen located Bryon Storm, 71, of Sanborn, inside a grain bin. He had gotten caught on the inside sweep auger but had freed himself. Fire department personnel shut the auger system down and along with sheriff's deputies, removed Storm from the grain bin and rendered aid.
Storm received serious injuries to both legs. He was transported by Sheldon Ambulance to Sheldon Sanford Hospital and then airlifted to Sanford Hospital at Sioux Falls, S.D., where at last report he was still hospitalized.
• Vehicle catches fire
The Sioux County Sheriff's Office investigated an accident that occurred at 12:03 a.m. on July 12. The report stated that Madison Borden, 25, of Sanborn, was northbound on Highway 60, two miles south of Alton, when she lost control of the 2005 Buick Terraza she was driving. The vehicle entered the median, rolled and started on fire.
Other motorists helped Borden out of the vehicle. She was transported by Orange City Ambulance to the Orange City Area Health System for treatment of minor injuries. Damage to the Terraza was estimated at $5,000.
Authorities suspect that alcohol was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation. The Orange City Fire Department, Orange City Police Department, Orange City Ambulance and Alton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
