Hofmeyer, Wittrock win O'Brien County Fair crowns
The 100th edition of the O'Brien County Fair ushered in a new regime of royalty on Monday.
Caden Wittrock, of Paullina, and Makenna Hofmeyer, of Granville, were named king and queen during the coronation ceremony. Wittrock will a be a senior at South O'Brien High School this fall while Hofmeyer is a recent graduate of MOC/FV High School in Orange City.
Wittrock is involved in both FFA and 4-H, and is involved in showing cattle, swine and woodworking projects. Hofmeyer is also involved in 4-H and FFA and shows livestock. She plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College and pursue a career as a veterinarian technician.
Other contestants during Monday's contest included MaKenna Wallin, of Paullina, Kierstyn Sandy, of Hartley, and Paisley Tesch, of Granville. Wallin was named 2024 fair princess.
In addition to annual the coronation festivities, more than 50 former fair royalty members were brought on stage to commemorate the event's 100th birthday. Each person shared their name, year of coronation and a favorite fair memory.
