Road renovations reach Hartley

M12 resurfacing hits Hartley city limits

A multi-million dollar resurfacing project reached Hartley city limits this month.

Workers from Croell, Inc. milled the surface of M12 (Vine Avenue and South 8th Avenue West in Hartley) and repoured new concrete over the past week. The overall scope of the project spans the length of M12 from Hartley to Sutherland, and is hoped for completion by the end of August.

Concrete pouring reached Highway 18 early this week. O'Brien County Engineer Dennis Clark said surface milling started in early June.

"So far, the project has progressed rather well even with the flooding issues throughout the county," he said.

The overall cost of the project is $6.9 million, the majority of which is coming from federal farm-to-market funds. Local monies are also dedicated to the road renovation. Municipalities like Hartley are required cover shoulder replacement costs inside city limits as well as any utility upgrades completed during the renovation.

A three-mile stretch of paved road from Moneta to Highway 18 was also bid with the M12 project, Clark noted.
