Patrick Lynch, 69, of Ayrshire, was arrested on July 27 following an investigation into a complaint of a vehicle in a ditch in the 3100 mile of 300th Street, northeast of Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported the pickup had fraudulent license plates and an open container of alcohol was found in the driver side cup holder. Lynch was not at the scene but had reportedly gotten a ride to his home.

Deputies from Clay and Palo Alto counties located Lynch at his residence, where they performed a field sobriety test. He was arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail, with stops for him to be checked by medical personnel.

Lynch was charged with OWI-2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor; Open Container, No Insurance, Failure to Maintain Control, Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle and Fraudulent Use of Registration, all simple misdemeanors.

Bud’s Service, Spencer Hospital, Dickens Fire & Rescue and the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

• No injuries in accident

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 10 and 110th Avenue on July 26.

The report stated that Mark Baker, 43, of Ashton, was westbound on Highway 10 in a Dodge Ram pickup pulling a trailer, and was behind a Chevrolet Silverado pulling a grain wagon, being driven by John Beeson, 73. Baker entered the eastbound lane in a no passing zone as Beeson began to turn onto 110th Avenue. The Ram sideswiped the driver’s side of the Silverado before entering the southwest ditch and striking a culvert. Beeson’s vehicle came to rest on Highway 10 facing west in the eastbound lane.

No injuries were reported. No estimate of damage to either vehicle was reported. Baker was charged with Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two-way Highway.
