Everly Community Days promises 3 days of fun

Saturday features full slate of events

With classes about to resume and the sun setting earlier each evening, Everly is gearing up for one last summer party this weekend.

Everly Community Days will be held Aug. 16-18. Like years past, the annual event once again features a variety of attractions to entertain the masses.

"We've got a lot going on and lots of stuff for all ages," said City Clerk Kristi Fliss, who is one of the event's organizers. "We invite everyone to come see what we've got going on around town."

New this year is a Friday schedule. The Everly Firefighter's Association will host a happy hour at the fire station from 4-10 p.m., and the Great Plains Zoomobile will be visiting the city park from 5-6 p.m.

Saturday's slate kicks off with Bossy BINGO and a vendor fair, which will be held at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center. Visitors are encouraged to come check out the spread and get a leg up on Christmas shopping three months early.

Also dotting the schedule Saturday morning are the Ping Pong Drop at Evertek, kids' games at the park, and open houses at the library and Everly Heritage Museum. Food trucks will also start slinging their treats beginning at 10 a.m. located at 301 E 2nd St., 314 E 3rd St. and Main Street. Vendors include Hunger Struck, Double M Concessions, Lucky Wife Wine Slushies, Bask In the Donuts, Daily Grind and Kandy's Korn.

The afternoon features the popular Cookie Memorial Mini Golf Tournament. Registration will be held from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at 314 E 3rd St., with a shotgun start slated for 1 p.m. Participants will meander throughout town and try their luck at 18 different holes, with prizes set to be awarded at 5:30 p.m.

An all-school reunion will be held at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday's slate wraps up with a meal by the Everly Firefighter's Association from 5-7 p.m., followed by a street dance headlined by She's With Us. The band performs a variety of favorites and features several local musicians, including lead vocalist and Everly native Iesha Toft.

Everly Community Days concludes on Sunday with a community church service at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center at 9 a.m. A pancake breakfast hosted by the Clay County Countrymen 4-H Club will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the fire station
