David J. Rozeboom, 69, Spencer

A memorial service in memory of David J. “Dave” Rozeboom was held Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at the Hartley Funeral Home in Hartley. Dr. Lynn Dau officiated. Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Hartley Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

David Jay “Dave” Rozeboom, one of two sons born to James and Dorthea (Zigtema) Rozeboom, came into the world on Oct. 8, 1954, in Rock Rapids. He grew up on his parents’ farm along with his only sibling, Larry. As with most country kids his days were a mix of work and play, helping his dad with the day-to-day operation and taking on farm chores, as he was able. He received his education at the Central Lyon Community School in Rock Rapids.

Having developed an interest in agriculture at an early age, Dave first worked with dairy cattle on a farm near Hartley. He then began what proved to be a long and successful career in grain farming and cattle feeding. He was always proud to be an Iowa farmer, and thankful to have been able to purchase his own land and build a new home for himself.

When there was a chance for some time off, Dave enjoyed an occasional trip to the Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood. He had especially fond memories of a gambling trip he and his good friend, Franklin Mett, took to Las Vegas to experience the sights and lights for themselves. Fall weather gave him an opportunity to do some hunting, another favorite pastime of his.

Dave passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorthea Rozeboom.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Larry Rozeboom, of Spirit Lake; several cousins and many friends.
