Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
Damian Dodge, of rural Hartley, recently shared his experiences from attending the 2024 American Legion of Iowa Boys State during the Hartley Legion Family's membership dinner on Aug. 21. He is pictured here with Legion Commander Roy Wohlert.
Boys State is a weeklong, hands-on youth civics leadership experience in the operation of the democratic form of government. According to the Iowa American Legion, students learn more in one week than they would in a semester of high school civics. In addition, there are opportunities to win scholarships and earn college credit to applicable schools.
Through the local American Legion Post, delegates or citizens of Boys State are selected and sponsored to participate.
