• Charged with sex offender registration violation
A criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Courts Office alleges that Robert Fortin, 24, of Hartley, a registered sex offender in Iowa, failed to report a change of employment or a change of residency within five business days.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office stated that Fortin, who was arrested on Aug. 21, has a prior conviction for the same charge.
Fortin was charged with Sex Offender Registration Violation, second or subsequent offense, a class D felony. He was held in the O’Brien County Jail in lieu of bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
• Semi overturns near Peterson
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Timothy Allen, of Whittemore, was southbound on M-27 and attempted to turn east onto Highway 10 near Peterson. As he did so, the tractor and semi-trailer filled with grain overturned. He stated that his brakes failed coming down the hill.
No injuries were reported. Damage to the semi owned by Ronald Kollasch, of Whittemore, was estimated at $75,000. Allen was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
The Iowa State Patrol and Peterson Ambulance also responded to the scene.
