Bank robbery suspect pleads guilty

Evans robbed Sanborn Savings Bank in January

Del Martinez Evans, Jr., 40, of Sanborn, recently pleaded guilty to the charge of Robbery by Force or Violence. The federal charge was filed in connection with the robbery of Sanborn Savings Bank on Jan. 22.

According to the criminal complaint, Evans entered Sanborn Savings Bank and handed a teller a note that this was a robbery. No weapons were displayed or referred to, but cash was taken. Evans was arrested at his home in Sanborn shortly after the robbery.

Evans pleaded not guilty to state charges of Robbery-2nd degree and Theft-2nd degree, but those charges were dismissed after the federal charges were filed.

No sentencing date has been set. Evans could be imprisoned for up to 20 years.
