Douglas W. Nielsen, 54, Everly

A memorial gathering for Douglas W. Nielsen will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at the Everly Chapel in Everly. A time of food and fellowship will follow at Hap Ketelsen Community Center in Everly.

Honorary casket bearers are Barry Schutz, Cody Holtz, Tyler Larson, Kyle Champine, Derrick Champine and Joe Ensley. Private interment will be held at a later date. Warner Funeral Home in Everly is assisting with the arrangements.

Douglas Wayne Nielsen, the son of Lloyd and Marilyn (Backstrom) Nielsen, was born June 11, 1970 in Spencer. His childhood years were spent in the Webb and Spencer areas, where he attended school. He worked as a warehouse supervisor for Quality Refrigerated Services in Spencer.

Doug married Janice Waddel on July 8, 2019 in Algona. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, cooking, trying new recipes, riding his motorcycle, and especially getting together with friends and family. He was a proud member of ABATE. Doug will be remembered for his passion in succeeding and positivity in his work ethic.

Doug passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024 in Everly, at the age of 54. He was preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Hilda and Niels Nielsen; maternal grandparents, Milford (Red) and Marjorie (Vyonne) Backstrom; two nephews, Joshua Burger and Lucas Krieg; and one great-nephew, Braden Huberg.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice, of Everly; two stepsons, Kyle Champine, of Everly, and Derrick (Josie) Champine, of Spirit Lake; one step-granddaughter, Bonnie; long lost son, Tyler Larson, of Spencer; two daughters, Sydney and Haylee, of Spencer; his mother, Marilyn Moor, of Spencer; two sisters, Kim (Torrey) Krause, of Everly, and Vickie (Terry) Krieg, of Spencer; one brother, Shane (Michelle) Nielsen, of Spencer; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.
