• Head-on collision on gravel road
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Glen Chenhall, 90, of Spencer, was southbound in the 3900 mile of 225th Avenue when his 2018 Ford collided with a 2018 Ford pickup driven by Brandon Needs, 27, of Spencer. Needs was following another vehicle on the gravel road that was producing a dust cloud, greatly reducing his visibility.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries. The vehicles were both totaled.
• Suffers medical emergency
Brian Holien, 52, of Jasper, Minn., was riding a 2015 Honda CRV in the 3700 mile of 240th Avenue on Sept. 16 when the vehicle went into the ditch. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Holien was able to drive the vehicle out of the ditch and left the scene before first responders arrived.
Spencer police and a sheriff’s deputy located Holien a short time later. They determined Holien had suffered a medical emergency. He was transported to Spencer Hospital.
Damage to the Honda was estimated at $10,000.
• Lands in cornfield
Maria De Jesus Lopez Melendez, 35, of Bigelow, Minn., was westbound on Vine Avenue at 5:56 p.m. on Sept. 18, when her baby started to cry. As she reached to tend to the child, the 2011 Volvo XC90 swerved, which the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported was confirmed by skid marks on the road. The vehicle crossed the driveway to an acreage at 2921 Vine Avenue and continued south into a cornfield before coming to a stop.
No injuries were reported. Damage to the Volvo was estimated at $7,000. Lopez Melendez was cited for No Valid Driver’s License and Failure to Maintain Control.
