Annual festivities run all next week, coronation set for Oct. 1

Homecoming festivities at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn kick off next Monday and run through Friday, when the Hawks take on rival South O'Brien at Peterson Field at 7 p.m. Coronation is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the H-M-S Event Center at 7 p.m.

The pep rally is set to begin Friday, Oct. 4 at 12:45 p.m., with the parade to follow at 2:15 p.m. in downtown Hartley. The community is invited to participate.

Ten seniors are vying for the king and queen crowns next week.

QUEEN CANDIDATES

Jamie Diaz, of Hartley, is the daughter of Juana and Jose Diaz. She is involved in dance, football and basketball cheerleading, FCCLA, student council, jazz choir, concert choir and FBLA.

Her favorite thing about school is spending time with her friends. Her best memory is being the hypewoman for the volleyball games.

Diaz plans to attend South Dakota State University for nursing and dance.

Abby Douma, of Sanborn, is the daughter of Adam and Jennifer Douma. She is involved in volleyball, basketball, tumbling and National Honor Society.

Her favorite thing about school is being with her friends and seeing her favorite teachers. Her best memory is junior year powderpuff.

Douma plans to attend NCC after high school.

Kamryn Ebel, of Hartley, is the daughter of Korey and Jonna Ebel. She is involved in cross country, basketball, track, gymnastics, softball, band, jazz band, FCA and National Honor Society.

Her favorite thing about high school is making memories with her friends. Her best memory is when Mr. Spier gave her and Gracie a ride back to the school when they were dying on a long cross country run (sorry Mr. Hoaglund).

Ebel plans to go to college to major in child psychology.

Frankie Mohni, of Hartley, is the daughter of Mike Mohni and Mary McCarty. She is involved in volleyball, basketball, track, softball, FBLA, FCA, student council, National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.

Her favorite thing about school is making memories with her friends and watching everyone grow up with each other. Her best memory is winning powderpuff and beefcake junior year.

Mohni plans to attend Iowa State University to study psychology.

Megan Otto, of May City, is the daughter of Jason and Sara Otto. She is involved in dance, FCA, FCCLA, student council, National Honor Society, choir and track.

Her favorite thing about high school is seeing and talking to Mrs. Berg every day. Her best memory is when junior class won beefcake volleyball and powderpuff football.

Otto plans to attend South Dakota State University to study Family Consumer Science Eduation.

KING CANDIDATES

Aiden Bush, of Hartley, is the son of Kristina and Matthew Bush. He is involved in cross country, golf and baseball.

His favorite thing about high school is the teachers. His best memory is when the lunch table timed Diego to see how fast he could finish his lunch (also Nate vs. Diego roast battles).

Bush plans to become a Fortnite pro.

James Gellerman, of Hartley, is the son of Tonya and Cory Gellerman. He is involved in football and wrestling.

His favorite thing about school is Mrs. Johnson. His best memory is freshman physical science with Jayden.

Gellerman's future plans are to get rich.

Moises Gonzalez, of Hartley, is the son of Eva Gonzalez and Mario Rodriguez. He is involved in cross country, track, speech, band, choir, jazz band, jazz choir, bowling and student council.

His favorite thing about high school is Mrs. Storm's class and it being a fever dream. His best memory is Corgan Petersen throwing a drum harness and crashing out at least once a week for marching band.

Gonzalez plans to become a barber.

Jack Mastbergen, of Sanborn, is the son of Eric Mastbergen and Jessica Gustufson. He is involved in football, bowling, golf, baseball, student council and youth group.

His favorite thing about school is the teachers. His best memory is the lunch table with the fellas.

Mastbergen's future plans are to go wherever the wind takes him.

Slayton McCarter, of Melvin, is the son of Kyle and Sarah McCarter. He is involved in football and golf.

His favorite thing about school is the 3:20 p.m. bell. His best memory is the sports bus home from football games.

McCarter plans to enter the workforce after high school.
