• Airlifted after being struck by vehicle
Carissa Gittins, 22, of Laurens, was westbound in the 2300 mile of 340th Street at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 when she was blinded by the sun. Her 2021 Nissan Rogue collided with a bicycle ridden by Ruby Alsman, of Spencer.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Alsman was seriously injured. She was initially taken to Spencer Hospital and was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Spencer Police Department, Spencer Hospital Ambulance and Dickens Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
• Collide southwest of Hartley
Two people were taken to an area hospital following a collision southwest of Hartley, at 9:10 a.m. on Sept. 20.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Mia Schultz, 58, of Hartley, was southbound on Taft Avenue when she failed to stop for a stop sign. Her 2021 Chevrolet pickup collided with a 2023 Ford pickup driven by Eugene Schiefen, 73, of Primghar, who was eastbound on 360th Street. His vehicle was towing a small single-axle trailer loaded with miscellaneous farm items.
Hartley Ambulance transported Schultz and the Primghar Ambulance transported Schiefen to Spencer Hospital. Damage estimates were $50,000 for the Schiefen vehicle and $40,000 for the Schultz vehicle. No charges were listed.
