Douglas Allen Stoermer was born April 6, 1960 at Spencer, the son of Earnest Leo and Janice Linette (Carlson) Stoermer. He spent his youth in the Gillett Grove area and received his education in Royal, playing high school football for the Clay Central Comanches.

Following graduation, Doug furthered his education by attending North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. He enjoyed the feeling of satisfaction from having done a hard day’s work, holding down various jobs in Colorado, Arizona and Texas before moving back to Iowa. Eventually he purchased his own rig and built a very successful business as owner/operator of Stoermer Trucking, the company his parents previously owned, most recently hauling for Pioneer Seed.

Doug met Chris Wallin in 2015 and the two have been inseparable ever since. They enjoyed spending their time together and have gone on many memorable adventures, including camping, riding motorcycles, going to bike rallies, taking their side-by-sides to explore the trails in the Black Hills and visiting warmer island destinations in the winters. Doug made the comment to his mom and dad that he had waited his whole life for her.

Doug had always enjoyed being outdoors, especially when it came to camping and fishing. When he was young, he and his dad had renovated an old school bus into a camper, taking the family to the lakes and other vacation spots. He loved to water ski early in the morning and then come back to the “bus” camper to eat a big breakfast with the rest of the family. He was a devoted son, calling his parents every day and taking care of whatever they may need – a rare attribute in today’s hectic world. Others noticed the care and attention he gave them and thought all the more of him because of it. Doug lived life to the fullest. He worked hard, played hard and touched many peoples’ hearts in the process.

Doug passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at the age of 64 years. He is once again reunited with his father, Earnest Stoermer; and his sister, Sheryl Lynn Stoermer.

He is loved and missed by his mother, Janice Stoermer, of Spencer; his devoted companion, Chris Wallin, of Melvin; other family and many friends.
