Mini-golf tournament raises $6,000 for cancer patients

Everly resident Denise Cook, along with her family members Ryan Nemmers and Brandon Hansen, dropped off special surprises at the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer, Storm Lake Oncology in Storm Lake, and June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City this week.

The trio on Aug. 17 hosted the 4th Annual Cookie Memorial Mini-Golf Tournament during Everly Community Days. The tournament is held in memory of Denise's late husband, Kevin Cook, who passed away in late 2020 after a hard battle with cancer.

Thanks to funds raised during the tournament, the Cook family was able to donate $2,000 apiece to the three cancer facilities. The money will be used to help many patients and families with a variety of needs such as transportation and meal assistance, wig care kits, and other individualized necessities.
