Pedley's Ponderings

Driving me nuts

Fall is typically my favorite season. The weather is great, the football is good, and there’s not much that bugs me this time of year. Afterall, my weeds and grass quit growing a long time ago.

Unfortunately, though, this autumn has proved to be an outlier. There have been several things driving me nuts lately, and I’m not sure when my annoyance will cease.

My kids’ bad attitudes have been out of this world in October. If one is in a good mood, the other is totally sour. I don’t have time for their arguments and their fits never make me cave to their demands, either. It seems like they’re wasting everybody’s time with their pouting, and I wish they’d just get over it. After all, Santa is watching....

Iowa’s quarterback play is once again making me nauseous this fall. This has been the standard for four years now, and my rope is growing rather short. For some reason I’m paying real, hard-earned money to see the Hawks play in person this Saturday, which is rather irritating based on the horror show I watched on TV last weekend.

Spam emails have been driving me batty at work recently. I know most folks are sick of political ads right now, but I’m exhausted by the stupid junk that floods my inbox each day.

These aren’t your run-of-the-mill scams, either. They are very specific in that each one details some bogus “poll” or “study” from Kentucky. Here are a few from this week:

“Kentucky Democrats more likely to date Republicans than vice-versa, finds survey”

“Survey reveals the one word women use to describe men in Kentucky”

“Kentucky men recover from breakups 3 weeks sooner than women, reveals survey”

“Kentucky’s least desired job: Being a steel worker, according to survey”

I don’t know what I did to be subjected to so much Bluegrass State baloney, but here I am. I’ve tried unsubscribing to these emails, too, but it doesn’t work because each one comes from a different account. It’s a rather bizarre pergatory to be stuck in.

In any case, I’m hoping things change soon – if not the emails, my bratty kids and the bad throws.
