Trick or treat hours
Hartley, Everly and Royal will all hold trick-or-treating hours on Thursday, Oct. 31. Hartley and Everly will hold theirs from 5-7 p.m., while Royal’s hours are scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m.
The Hartley Chamber of Commerce is planning a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat downtown on Monday from 3:30-5 p.m. Local businesses are encouraged to hand out goodies to participants.
Kids will start at City Hall and go south, then cross the street and go north all the way to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where there will be activities and hot dogs for all. Businesses should be set up by 3:15 p.m.
Fire departments hosting breakfasts
Fire departments in Hartley and Royal will hold their annual fall breakfast fundraisers this weekend. Free will donations will be accepted at each meal.

Election Day soup supper at St. Joe’s
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley will hold its annual Election Day Homemade Soup & Pie Supper on Tuesday, Nov. 5. A free-will offering will be accepted, and delivery for shut-ins is available. Meals will be served from 4-7 p.m.

Veterans Day meals
The Hartley American Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church are planning Veterans Day meals on Nov. 11. Local veterans and their families are invited to attend.

Gems & Junque Sale is Saturday
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley is holding its annual Gems & Junque Sale on Saturday, Nov. 2. A variety of items will be available and a meal will be served.

Chamber Bingo
Local residents are encouraged to cut out the bingo card on Page 5 and take it to the listed businesses to receive a stamp. Once you get five in a row, you can return your card at City Hall for a chance to win raffle prizes.
Soup supper in Royal
A harvest soup supper fundraiser will be held at The Great Hall of Royal on Saturday, Nov. 2. Proceeds will benefit the Jim McDonnell Scholarship Fund.

Monday, Nov. 4: Breakfast – Cereal, pop tart (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – French bread pizza, romaine salad, cherry tomatoes, applesauce.
Tuesday, Nov. 5: Breakfast – Waffles, sausage (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – Chicken patty on bun, chips, corn, mixed fruit.
Wednesday, Nov. 6: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Crispito, lettuce, cheese, red peppers, bananas, bread (9-12).
Thursday, Nov. 7: Breakfast – Egg and cheese on biscuit, fruit, juice; Lunch – Spaghetti, breadstick, cucumbers, green beans, pears.
Friday, Nov. 8: Breakfast - Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Turkey and cheese on bun, chips, baked beans, baby carrots, oranges.
Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.
Dance at HKCC is Nov. 2
A dance sponsored by Dance 4 Fun will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center in Everly. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with dancing from 7-10:30 p.m. Music will be provided by The Expressions.
Singles and married couples are welcome. Feel free to bring snacks to share.
Food pantry on Wednesdays at HLC
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food.
Regular hours at Royal library
Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Al Anon meetings
Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:
Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
All are welcome to attend.
Events at EPL
One Mile Monday is held at the library on Mondays at 10:15 a.m. Chair yoga is held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11a.m.-noon, and mah jongg is played Fridays at 12:30 p.m.
A Halloween costume party will be held at 10 a.m. at the library. Trick-or-treat hours in Everly are from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
