• Respond to cornfield fire

Three area fire departments responded to a report of cornstalks on fire in a field near 360th Street and Silver Avenue, two miles north of Primghar on Highway 59.

Cornstalks were burning with a south wind pushing the fire north as Primghar firemen approached the scene. Several farmers with disks helped fight the fire, and the Hartley and Sanborn fire departments also responded.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined, as no farm equipment was working in the field. About five acres were burned, including a portion of a neighbor’s standing corn.
