Joan Karen Wills was born Dec. 23, 1944 in Sanborn, the daughter of John Willis and Jeanette A. (Brouwer) Bosch. She attended school in Sanborn, graduating from Sanborn High School with the Class of 1964. She furthered her education by enrolling in business school in Minneapolis, Minn., with a focus on dental hygienist.
Joan was united in marriage to Lorn R. Wills on April 10, 1971, at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. They began their life together farming near Sanborn. Over the years, three children would make their family complete: Vickie, Wade and Rhonda.
Joan thoroughly enjoyed being a farmwife, mom, and eventually a grandmother. She looked forward to attending the grandkids’ activities while staying involved in her own children’s lives. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, where she was active in Sunday school, Ladies Society, Bible studies and the St. Paul Quilters, an activity she enjoyed at home as well. Sewing, crossword puzzles, word search or just getting lost in a good book were also among her favorite pastimes. If the television was on and Joan had the remote, she would oftentimes be surfing for a “who-done-it” detective show.
Joan was reunited with loved ones who had gone before on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at the age of 79. They include her parents, John and Jeanette Bosch; an infant sister, Marlys; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lorn Wills, of Sanborn; her children: Vickie Wills-Quinones, of Pleasant Hill, Wade (Harmony) Wills, of Hawarden, and Rhonda (Chad) Lyman, of Sanborn; six grandchildren: Logan and Benjamin Quinones, Chance Williams, Morgan and Tanner Vlaminck, and Jayden Lyman; her sister, Charlotte Vierhout, of Sanborn; several dear nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
