Trinity UCC hosting holiday fair and auction Saturday

Trinity United Church of Christ will hold its annual holiday fair and auction on Saturday, Nov. 16 starting at 9:30 a.m. A meal will be served from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., with the auction to follow.

Melvin Legion holding brunch this Sunday

Melvin American Legion Post 470 will host its annual fall brunch on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, buscuits and gravy, omelets, sausage, and drinks.

Puzzle swap planned at Hartley library

Puzzle swaps are planned Nov. 20-27 at the Hartley Public Library. Bring your gently used and completed puzzles and swap them out for a new challenge. Puzzles are donated and availability is not guaranteed.

The Between the Covers Book Club meets from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Participants will chat about Anne Marie Ryan’s “Christmas by the Book.” Pick up a copy at the library’s circulation desk.

Ernst staff to host office hours in Clay, O’Brien counties

U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) announced that her office will be holding traveling office hours during November and December. Please note that Ernst will not be at the meetings.

Representatives from the senator’s office will be available to assist Iowans with problems and questions about issues involving Social Security, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration issues and other federal programs.

Constituents seeking assistance with federal agencies who are unable to attend the traveling office hours can contact one of the senator’s offices directly or submit a casework request online at http://www.Ernst.senate.gov.

Upcoming dates and locations for office hours in this area are:

• Clay County: Tuesday, Nov. 19, 10-11 a.m., Spencer City Hall Council Chambers, 101 West 5th Street, Spencer.

• O’Brien County: Tuesday, Nov. 19, 3-4 p.m., Paullina City Hall-The Laue Room, 127 South Main Street, Paullina.

Events at Everly Public Library

Ms. Bree from Clay County Conservation will present a program about nature at the Everly Public Library at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14.

Story time on Monday, Nov. 18 begins at 11:15 a.m. The library will be closed during the evening hours that day. “Come and Play” on Tuesday, Nov. 19 will be held from 5-7 p.m.

Regularly scheduled library activities include One Mile Monday on Mondays at 10:15 a.m .; chair yoga on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m.-noon; and mah jongg on Fridays at 12:30 p.m.

Regular open hours are Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m .; Thursdays, 5-7 p.m .; and Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Food pantry on Wednesdays at HLC

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

ILCC to hold open house for veterans center in Estherville

Iowa Lakes Community College is hosting an open house for its Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success on Nov. 22 from 9-11 a.m.

Community members, veterans, and their families are invited to attend, tour the center, meet the staff, and explore the resources available to support veterans transitioning to civilian life.

“The veterans center provides students with a dedicated space to access the tools, support, and community they need for academic and personal success,” said Tim Ireland, veterans center director, in a news release. “The veterans center reflects our appreciation for their service, and we are excited to show the community what we offer.”

The open house will feature refreshments, providing a relaxed setting for networking among veterans, community members and college representatives. Attendees are encouraged to enter through the main entrance #1 at the Estherville Campus at 300 South 18th St.
