Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
Jeff Scharn previously served as district's assistant superintendent
The Clay Central/Everly school board on Nov. 1 hired a former administrator to join the staff roster.
Jeff Scharn, who served as CC/E's assistant superintendent from 2019 until his retirement in June 2024, was hired to fulfill the elementary school's director of student services. He succeeds Michelle Huntress, who will remain at CC/E as the principal.
Previously, there was nobody with a principal title in the school, but Huntress essentially fulfilled that role as director of student services. Superintendent Kevin Wood explained that Scharn "will essentially be taking on some of the duties he had prior to retirement."
"He will handle the staff and personnel while I will continue to handle the budget," Wood said. "Jeff will be one of the first contacts Michelle will have, being available on given days communicated with Michelle."
As per the stipulations of Scharn's contract, he will be paid a salary of $37,500 per school year. He will be required to be in the building one day per week, but available as needed. Emails, phone calls and text communication will be available in coordination with the building principal.
