NCC partners with private institutions for transfer guarantee
In a statewide effort to enhance student pathways to four-year degrees, Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon has joined forces with 18 private, nonprofit colleges and universities in Iowa, along with other exceptional community colleges across the state, to implement the Iowa Private Transfer Guarantee admission agreement.
This agreement facilitates streamlined transfer opportunities for NCC students and other Iowa community college students aiming to continue their education at a private institution in Iowa. It also provides NCC students with several advantages as they transition to private four-year institutions:
• Guaranteed Admission to one of the 19 participating private institutions;
• Clear Transfer Pathways that streamline credit articulation and align with private colleges’ academic standards; and
• Retention-Focused Support to ensure a smooth academic and social transition.
Additionally, each participating private college offers students specific benefits and services beyond guaranteed admission, which may include transfer orientation, pre- and post-transfer advising, scholarships and general education agreements. Select institutions may also waive housing requirements or provide cross-enrollment opportunities to enhance the student experience.
According to President John Hartog, NCC students are well-prepared to thrive at four-year institutions. Recent data from the Iowa Board of Regents shows that NCC students who transfer to Iowa’s regent universities achieve a first-term GPA of 3.17 and complete more credits in their first year than their peers from other community colleges.
Private institutions involved in the Iowa Private Transfer Collaborative (IPTC) include Briar Cliff University, Buena Vista University, Central College, Clarke University, Coe College, Cornell College, Drake University, Graceland University, Grand View University, Loras College, Luther College, Morningside University, Mount Mercy University, Northwestern College, Saint Ambrose University, Simpson College, University of Dubuque, Wartburg College, and William Penn University.
