Daycare cookbook needs recipes

The Parents of Hartley Community Daycare group are compiling a cookbook with local recipes as a fundraiser. All proceeds from the book, which will be printed before Christmas, will be used to support the activities of the daycare center.

Recipes are due Nov. 28. See the ad on Page 3 for more details.

Red’s Catering menu, Thanksgiving meal

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving a variety of specials on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Additionally, Red’s will be serving a Thanksgiving take-out meal later this month.

Puzzle swap planned at Hartley library

The puzzle swap at the Hartley Public Library continues through Wednesday, Nov. 27. Bring your gently used and completed puzzles and swap them out for a new challenge. Puzzles are donated and availability is not guaranteed.

The Between the Covers Book Club meets from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Participants will chat about Anne Marie Ryan’s “Christmas by the Book.” Pick up a copy at the library’s circulation desk.

Food distribution at Trinity UCC

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Thursday, Nov. 21, starting at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.

Winter concerts scheduled at H-M-S

The music department at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn has scheduled winter concerts in the coming weeks. Each concert will begin at 7 p.m.

The seventh and eighth grade band and choir’s winter concert will be held Monday, Nov. 25, in the middle school gym at Sanborn.

Monday, Dec. 9, is the date for the high school band and choir concert, which will be held in the new gym.

The fifth and sixth grade bands and general music students will present their winter concert on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the middle school gym.

H-M-S Giving Tree

The H-M-S Giving Tree will once again provide gifts to families in need during the upcoming holiday season. Wrapped gifts are due back at participating businesses by Dec. 13.

Events at Everly Public Library

D&L Ceramics will be at the Everly Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon-3 p.m. with fall and holiday items for painting or glazing.

The movie “Free Birds” will be shown on Monday, Nov. 25, at 12:30 p.m. Michelle Cowan, author of “Better Not Bitter,” will be at the library at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The library will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Food pantry on Wednesdays at HLC

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

CCCF grant apps being accepted

Eligible Clay County non-profit organizations are reminded that the applications for the Clay County Community Foundation (CCCF) 2025 Community Betterment Grants will be accepted Nov. 15, 2024-Jan. 15, 2025. The deadline for the impact grant letter of intent was Nov. 15.

Grants may be awarded in the following areas: Economic Development/Job Creation; Cultural, Recreational, Social and Educational activities; Parks and Outdoor Recreational facilities; Health and Human Services.
