Local elementary students receive Caitlin Clark books

'Just Like Caitlin' given to thousands of second graders across Iowa

Second graders at Clay Central/Everly and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn can now read about the story of Caitlin Clark due to an act of generosity by her former coach.

Dickson and Luann Jensen donated 50,000 copies of the book "Just Like Caitlin" to more than 600 schools across the Hawkeye State and in the Indianapolis area. Dickson Jensen was a coach to Clark while she played for All Iowa Attack. Most students got their books last Wednesday, which was World Kindness Day.

The picture book, written by Ally Obermeier, the Jensens' daughter and an all-state guard who played at Ballard High School, tells the story of how Clark brought a new level of national attention to basketball. It also teaches readers about how losing is a part of the sport, but it is still important to remain positive and not give up on your dreams.

More than 40,000 books were donated to kids in Iowa, according to an Instagram post from the book's account. The donations were intended to give the book to every second grade student in Iowa.

Clark, a former standout on the University of Iowa women's basketball team, now plays professionally in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever.
