Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
A scrimmage organized by the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys' basketball team will provide an opportunity for players and the community to support local students and families by collecting food donations.
H-M-S is hosting an "Achieve Scrimmage" on Monday, Nov. 25, starting at 6 p.m. in the high school gym. The scrimmage will be for the JV and varsity teams of H-M-S and MVAOCOU.
Community members are encouraged to attend. Donations of canned food or shelf-stable food items will be accepted for admission. Those items will support the H-M-S backpack program.
The Achieve Challenge is a voluntary statewide community service initiative for high schools. Participating schools select a service project that is meaningful for their students and community.
In addition to collecting food items for the backpack program, the goal of the scrimmage is to foster community spirit through a collaborative sports event, and provide team members with an opportunity to give back and participate in community service.
All food donations will be organized and distributed to the backpack program by H-M-S basketball team members.
