Okoboji-HMS girls finish 2nd to Lions at West Lyon

Competing against each other for the second time, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock outscored Okoboji-HMS to top the team standings during a girls' wrestling tournament at West Lyon.

The Lions scored 138 points and the Pioneers scored 110. The third and fourth place teams were Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (105.5) and MOC-Floyd Valley (105). Eleven teams participated in the tournament on Nov. 25.

The Pioneers' Brooke Stockdale won the title at 110 pounds. Runner-up finishers were Lillie Schwager at 100 pounds and Brilee Fauth at 125. Finishing third were Kimberly Bergeson at 135 pounds and Jenessa Gates at 190.

Madi Lauer, of H-M-S, placed fourth in the 115-pound bracket. She won by fall over Sophia Salzman of Sibley-Ocheyedan (0:53) and lost to Cora Schut of Sioux Center (0:35). In consolation action, Lauer pinned Ella Jean Kooiker of BH/RV (2:52) and lost by fall in the third-place match to Joley Schmahl of Spirit Lake (2:58).

Okoboji-HMS girls' wrestlers will be busy in the coming week with a double dual hosted by GTRA on Dec. 5, their home tournament on Dec. 7 and a meet hosted by Sioux Central on Dec. 10.
