Sounds of the Christmas season

Vocal, instrumental ensembles perform holiday favorites at 'A Winter Concert'

Students at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School performed music with a holiday theme during the winter concert on Dec. 9.

The jazz choir, featuring soloist Jamie Diaz, sang "All I Want for Christmas is You." The concert choir presented "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), "Mary, Did You Know?" and "A Very, Merry Christmas."

Making their first public appearance of the year, jazz band members performed "Birdland," with soloist David Wetrich on baritone saxophone. The number is one of the selections the jazz band will perform at future contests. Holiday-themed "Angels We Have Rocked the House" featured Addily Benz and JW Van Der Merwe on trumpet, Jenna Hengeveld on piano, Mykle Meyers on tenor saxophone and percussionist Kenadie Van Loon.

Closing out the evening, the concert band played "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Feliz Navidad," "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and the traditional "Christmas Sing-a-Long."

The vocal groups are directed by Kristi Daggett and the instrumental groups are directed by Andrew Yenzer
