Okoboji-HMS girls sweep LeMars, Sioux Center in dual action

A late rally and a strong start led the Okoboji/HMS girls’ wrestling team to a sweep of duals hosted by Sioux Center on Dec. 10.

Trailing LeMars twice in the team scoring, the Pioneers rallied for a 42-36 win. Okoboji/HMS flipped the script against Sioux Center, building a comfortable lead on its way to a 48-27 victory.

Addilyn Plathe, Brilee Fauth and Jenessa Gates won both of their matches.

Two H-M-S athletes were among nine Pioneers who split their matches. Miley Appledorn won by fall over Mackenna Frerichs of LeMars (0:51) and lost by fall to Maritza Morales Chavez of Sioux Center (5:17).

Natalie Dagel won by forfeit against LeMars and lost a decision to Carlee Pieper of Sioux Center (12-11).

The Pioneers wrap up their pre-holiday schedule on Dec. 19 at a double dual hosted by Central Lyon/George-Little Rock at Rock Rapids.

• JV results

Mahkenzie Mattingly wrestled in two JV matches at Sioux Center. She won by fall over Quinlynn Klein (0:28) and lost by fall to Avah Gillespie (1:15), both of Sioux Center.

Several Okoboji/HMS wrestlers also participated in a girls’ JV tournament hosted by Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Dec. 9.

Mattingly split her matches, losing by fall to Crystal Marquez of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (2:54) and winning by fall over Olivia Van Maaren of Sheldon (0:21).

Lindsay Tucker, Mya Whiting and Plathe were all 2-0.
