H-M-S bowlers earn 2 wins against West Sioux
Bowlers from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn successfully adjusted to lane conditions at Sportsman’s Lanes at Hawarden on Dec. 17. The Hawks swept both teams from West Sioux to remain undefeated entering the holiday break.
The girls bowled a three-game format, as West Sioux had only one participant. Jordan Lux and Mason VerHelst tied for high series, each rolling a three-game total of 473.
Individual scores were: Addison Huffman 129, 96, 145 – 370; Kaeley Benson 113, 109, 101 – 323; Lillian Van Loon 104, 100, 127 – 331; VerHelst 161, 154, 158 – 473; Kaidence Shaffer 123, 116, 117 – 356; and Lux 154, 180, 139 – 473.
“Some of the girls tried to adjust to the lane conditions and getting their fills,” Hawk coach Julia Meyer noted. “We are working on the adjustments we need to make at each different bowling alley.”
The H-M-S boys improved to 3-0, topping West Sioux by a margin of 2937-2506.
Two-game series scores were: Dawson Niichel 119, 190; Graham Lux 179, 201; Hunter Daggett 170, 224; Damian Dodge 168, 188; Jack Mastbergen 226, 220; and Luke Dagel 210, 221. Scores of the Baker games were 146, 200, 224, 185 and 175.
“The boys are doing a good job of adjusting and keeping their individual scores up at or near the 200s,” Meyer said. “The Baker games are averaging 186 which is good, but I feel we’ll need an average of 200 to compete with some of our upcoming opponents. We definitely have the talent to do it.”
Scores for the JV bowlers were Skyler Shaffer 191, 192; Ryan Grotluschen 99, 111; Braden Niichel 167, 236; Blake Essing 126, 146; Eli Mastbergen 177, 193; Noah Niichel 170, 162; and Jackson Brower 160, 116.
H-M-S resumes its post-holiday schedule on Jan. 9 in a meet hosted by MMCRU at Marcus.
