Upcoming events at Hartley library

As part of the Winter Naturalist series, O'Brien County Conservation will teach and direct a short lesson and activity to create your own macramé gnomes. The activity will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17. Supplies are provided.

A kid's craft day will be held on Monday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. Participants will make sock snowmen.

Between the Covers book club will hold their monthly meeting from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27. This month's selection is David Grann's "The Wager." Patrons can order a copy from the library or download one from Libby.

Learn from the naturalist during January

O'Brien County Conservation Naturalist Lindsey Kleinhesselink is hosting a quarterly book club. The first selection on the reading list is "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold. Please complete your reading by Monday, Jan. 20 for a discussion accompanied by coffee and treats, to be held at 10 a.m. that day at the Prairie Heritage Center.

You can borrow copies of the book from the center. Contact Kleinhesselink at (712) 295-7200 with any questions.

Enhance your knowledge and connect with the natural world through the Senior Environmental Learning & Fellowship (SELF) program. Kleinhesselink will lead this adult-only initiative that includes a brief educational session paired with coffee and refreshments focused on adult conservation. The complimentary program will explore a range of topics and will take place at two different locations.

Programming dates for this month are Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Prairie Heritage Center, and Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Sheldon Public Library. Both programs begin at 10 a.m.

Eggs & Issues first session is Jan. 25

During the 2025 Iowa legislative season, the Spencer Chamber of Commerce will once again host three sessions with state representatives serving the area. The sessions are held in January, February and March on Saturday mornings and are open to the public.

All forums are held from 9-10:30 a.m. in the council chambers at Spencer City Hall. Dates this year are Jan. 25, Feb. 15 and March 29.

Invited to attend are local house and senate representatives along with state and national government elected officials.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
