• Vehicle under-rides semi trailer
One man was injured and $8,000 in damage resulted in an accident at 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 3, east of Sanborn on Highway 18.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that James Richard Husman, 43, of Lake Park, was following a 2019 International driven by Paul Mazur, 46, of Paullina. As he attempted to pass the semi, Husman saw another semi approaching from the east. As he took evasive action, the 2007 Mitsubishi left the roadway and entered the left ditch. Husman steered back to the roadway, lost control and reentered the roadway where the Mitsubishi under-rode the trailer of the semi. Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway and blocked the eastbound lane.
Husman was transported by ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Damage estimates were $5,000 for the semi and $3,000 for the Mitsubishi.
