MMCRU tops H-M-S in first bowling action of '25
MMCRU took advantage of their home lanes to sweep Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn at a bowling meet Jan. 9 at Remsen.
"We showed signs of not being in practice for two weeks and MMCRU was on their home alley. It was definitely an advantage for them," Hawk coach Julia Meyer said.
The H-M-S girls gave MMCRU a good battle and narrowly lost by 40 pins. Pin totals for the individual games were: Addison Huffman 136, 135; Kaeley Benson 161, 125; Lillian Van Loon 146, 155; Mason VerHelst 141, 157; Kaidence Shaffer 170, 155; and Jordan Lux 133, 155. Scores for the Baker games were 128, 154, 167, 99 and 164.
"The girls have shown improvement each meet this season," Meyer noted. "We met up against a pretty tough opponent and we held our own until the end. I was proud of their scores and effort; however, we still have some improving to do on the spares."
The Royals won the boys' meet by a 2953-2720 margin. Their familiarity on the wood lanes made the meet an uphill battle for the Hawks.
Individual scores were: Dawson Niichel 223, 163; Hunter Daggett 169, 222; Eli Mastbergen 162, 141; Damian Dodge 141, 136; Jack Mastbergen 184, 191; and Luke Dagel 105, 240. Baker game scores were 157, 209, 187, 211 and 156.
"We had some good games and good effort, but could not get the momentum going our way," Meyer acknowledged. "They were adjusting and readjusting to the lanes and just could not get the pins to keep falling in their favor. It was definitely a learning experience for trying to adjust to the different lane type and their conditions."
The boys will take on Estherville-Lincoln Central on Jan. 16 at Estherville. Both squads will bowl West Sioux on Jan. 21 at Sanborn.
