Wrestlers sweep 3 opponents at home quadrangular
Three runner-up finishers led the way for Okoboji/HMS at the Siouxland Conference girls' wrestling tournament. The Pioneers finished fourth as a team at the meet on Jan. 14 at Rock Rapids.
Finishing second were Brooke Stockdale at 110 pounds, Dulce Ortega at 115 and Kimberly Bergeson at 135. Another trio of Pioneers finished third: Kenadie Neavin at 105 pounds, Brilee Fauth at 125 and Jenessa Gates at 170.
Kaela Weston placed fourth at 100 pounds and Addilyn Plathe added a fifth-place finish at 120.
Two girls from H-M-S competed at the meet. Addily Benz, who placed sixth at 130 pounds, lost by fall to Cameron Halbur of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (0:28) and Avery Littlefield of Central Lyon/GLR (0:21), and forfeited the fifth place match to Maddy Cornell of West Lyon.
Mahkenzie Mattingly did not place in the 155 pound bracket. She lost by fall to Reagan Rusche of Sibley-Ocheyedan (0:50) and to Paityn Homer of Sheldon/South O'Brien (1:13).
CL/GLR won the tournament with 235.5 points and BH/RV was runner-up with 190. They were followed by MOC-Floyd Valley 159, Okoboji/HMS 124, Sioux Center 106, Sibley-Ocheyedan 88, West Lyon 75 and Sheldon/South O'Brien 71.
• Sweep home quadrangular
The Pioneers swept three opponents during a quadrangular on Jan. 16 at Milford. Two of the duals were competitive, with Okoboji/HMS edging Sheldon/South O'Brien, 42-36, and Spirit Lake, 36-30. They also defeated Sibley-Ocheyedan, 60-18.
Benz wrestled at 130 pounds and received two forfeits. She was also pinned by Camilla Neppl of Spirit Lake (0:32). Mattingly won a match by forfeit, and lost by fall to Horner (0:51) and to Rayvena Ussery of Spirit Lake (1:04).
Weston, Neavin, Fauth and Gates were 3-0 for Okoboji/HMS, which improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in conference duals.
The Pioneers will wrestle at a double dual hosted by MOC-Floyd Valley on Jan. 23 and in the Sergeant Bluff-Luton tournament on Jan. 25 at Sioux City. Duals with Central Lyon/GLR and West Lyon will be made up on Jan. 28 at Rock Rapids.
