Piling up the wins

The Okoboji/HMS boys' wrestling team won a pair of duals at a quadrangular hosted by Algona on Jan. 14. The Pioneers defeated Cherokee, 69-12, and Estherville-Lincoln Central, 46-36, but lost to Algona, 56-20.

Chase Franklin, Tyce Hanson, Brennan Baschke and Nathaniel Franklin were all 3-0 for the night, while Blake Knudtson, Wesley Evans and Tyler Pyle each won two matches.

A pair of H-M-S wrestlers were in the varsity lineup. Wrestling at 113 pounds, Dallas Greer won by forfeit, lost by fall to Aiden White of E-LC (1:08) and lost by fall to Thomas Zabka of Algona (1:42).

Riley Mattingly wrestled at 215 pounds and lost by fall to Sean Comstock of Cherokee (3:33), Aiden Deim of E-LC (4:52) and Gavin Goche of Algona (0:36).

Taylor Dykstra won both of his JV matches by fall; Emilio Martinez also won by fall; and Austin Greer, Easton Teal and Mykle Meyers lost their matches by fall.

• Sweep Siouxland Conference duals

Okoboji/HMS also swept a pair of Siouxland Conference duals on Jan. 16 at Milford. The Pioneers defeated Sheldon/South O'Brien, 52-24, and Sibley-Ocheyedan, 51-28.

H-M-S wrestler Nathan Stofferan won both of his matches at 113 pounds. He won by technical fall over Alexis Ocampo of Sheldon/South O'Brien (17-2/1:51) and by forfeit.

Meyers competed at 165 pounds, losing by fall to Mitchel Fischer of Sheldon/South O'Brien and Easton Beyer of S-O (1:34). Mattingly was pinned by Landon Sietstra of Sheldon/South O'Brien (1:24) and Kyler Elser of S-O (1:33) at 215 pounds.

Knudtson, Chase Franklin, Evans, Hanson, Baschke and Nathaniel Franklin also won both of their matches.

Martinez won his JV match by fall.

Okoboji/HMS (11-4, 3-0) wrestles MOC-Floyd Valley and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Jan. 23 at Orange City, and at the Herb Irgens Invitational at Ida Grove, Jan. 24-25. The Pioneers will also make up duals with Central Lyon/GLR and West Lyon on Jan. 28 at Rock Rapids.
